Behind the Scenes: A Volkswagen Valentine’s
When planning our Valentine’s day photoshoot this year, we knew we wanted to use our vintage Volkswagen bus, Ruth! We love how it came together, but what do you think? See how we made our vision come to life by checking out the reels below!
Part 1: Prop Shopping
After compiling our vision boards for these Valentine’s mini sessions, we needed to see what the stores around us have. We often source our props from places like Etsy, but it’s awesome when the stores around us have items we can work into the setup! We have to admit, you have to be willing to go to a lot of different stores this way. We counted 7 stops in total! However, we were able to find everything we needed, so it was definitely a success!
Off camera we had one of the girls paint the tic-tac-toe board a really cute combination of colors. Another one of our girls started sourcing flowers and props to fill the lanterns with. Both turned out darling, you’ll have to check it out in part two!
Part 2: The Promo Shoot
We got to the picture site early so we could get Ruth all ready with the Valentine’s props. Last year, we did a few mini sessions with our Volkswagen, including fall pumpkin minis and Christmas minis, but we haven’t dressed the van up for Valentine’s before!
When setting up the van, it’s all about layering props. We knew where we generally wanted things to go, but sometimes, things don’t look like you imagined they would. So, you pick it up and try another spot! By the end, it always ends up looking cute. The lanterns on the ground had real baby’s breath in it which was a fun addition that added to the vintage, floral theme that we had going. What’s your favorite part about the set-up?
After we got the bus decorated, the family for our promo shoot arrived. Their little boy was feeling kind of shy and wasn’t happy meeting strangers. We did a few things to try and help him warm up to us, then we moved on to some couples photos with his parents. Once he saw us taking pictures with his parents, he wanted to join! We think we got some pretty cute ones!
