Wedding Ideas We Love

Our offsite team had a great year of weddings in 2023, and they are continuing their awesome work into 2024’s wedding season! As wedding season is in full force, we wanted to share some ideas from weddings we’ve taken that we thought were unique and fun!

Unique Cakes

Obviously, the cutting of the cake is one of the classic parts of the reception. While all cakes are beautiful (and tasty!), there are certain looks that have been around for a long time. Leaning into a trendier style of cake decoration is a great way to add a little flair to this traditional custom. We loved this cake from one of our most recent weddings; we’ve seen this style of cake called Victorian pipping, Lambeth cakes, or simply “coquette” or “vintage” on apps like TikTok. Despite it’s vintage inspiration, this style is undeniably trendy. While first becoming popular as birthday and anniversary cakes, these Lambeth cakes are becoming increasingly popular for weddings!

Multiple Flavor Options

Continuing with the idea of cakes, we love the idea of having multiple smaller cakes than one big cake. Big cakes can feed a lot of people, but they also take longer to cut and serve, and some venues charge a fee to complete the service. In more intimate settings, smaller cakes that guests (or a designated helper) can cut themselves may cut down on costs while providing your guests with a variety of flavor options. With smaller cakes, you can choose more unique flavors with different profiles so that there’s a cake that everyone’s sure to like! If you’re having a large wedding, but don’t want to deal with cutting a giant cake, it’s also common for the couple to have their own cake to cut while providing a different pre-cut cake for the guests, like a sheet-cake.

A Thrilling Exit

This year, one of our couples exited their reception on a motorcycle, and it couldn’t have been more fun! You can still have your guests line up with sparklers, bubbles, or confetti, but instead of walking through the procession, you’ll be leaving in style! If you decide to leave in a vehicle you want pictures with, we recommend not leaving too quickly. Going through the line slowly, or taking a second to soak in the excitement once you get into your car, allows your photographer to get multiple angles and creative shots of the scene while making sure the photos will be in focus and perfectly composed!

Here’s another awesome vintage vehicle one of our couples used for portraits and their exit!

Retro Photo Booths

Photo booths are such a fun way to help guests take a little piece of the night home with them! We’ve seen all types of photo booths, but we’re a little biased towards our own retro Volkswagen Bus, “Ruth.” We always see so much excitement from guests as they line up for their photos, plan what they should do, and then laugh at how awesome they turned out. At every event we’ve taken Ruth to, she’s been a hit amongst all ages! We create a sign-in book for guests using a copy of the photo-strips they take inside our photo bus. After the photos are put into the book, guests can sign their names and a message to the couple. If you’d like to inquire about Ruth’s availability for your event, contact weddings@camerashy.com or (801) 674-2295.

“His + Hers” Detail Shots

Most of the time when photographers capture detail shots, it’s typical to see the bride and groom’s rings, the bride’s accessories, and the wedding stationery. It’s less often that we see the groom’s accessories being included with the set up. In this shot, the groom had a watch that matched the silver of his wedding band and the green of his suit. Not only was this a fun way to incorporate a bit of the wedding’s colors into this detail shot, but it also showed a bit of the groom’s style too! Consider adding things like the groom’s watch, cuff links, tie, or tie clip into the mix of the detail shots. As much as we love seeing all the bride’s beautiful selections, we love when the pictures show a mix of the bride and groom together.
